About Me - Meet the Resistance:

Hi! Welcome to Race Escape Artists.

My name is Bola. And I'm a Rat Racer.

First, the pre-requisite boring stuff:

  • I have earned a Bachelors in Computer Science, and an MBA in Marketing.
  • I've worked at large Fortune 500 companies like IBM, with hundreds of thousands of employees.
  • And I've worked at smaller companies with just a thousand employees.
  • I've been laid off before, because of cut backs.
  • And I've had many a day sitting in a cubicle after sun-down, wondering what I was doing there.

I know a little bit about the Rat Race. :)

Me

But the most valuable lessons I've learned have been from being an entrepreneur for 12 years. I've founded 3 companies in that time, and pursued scores of business strategies. Each has been based on things I'm passionate about: web design, social networking, travel, education, fun events, marketing...

Each time, I have built the company around my passion, and later found that instead of creating a business (that will earn me passive income, even when I'm not running the shop), I had created a job (one that would not earn any money the minute I stepped away from the computer). Michael Gerber's "E-Myth Revisited" is the absolute BEST book that I've read, on the topic of becoming an entrepreneur in the wrong way.

Skydiving

In case you're wondering, I'm still in the Rat Race. But I started actively working on getting OUT almost as SOON as I entered, over a decade ago! I've tried lots of things that sounded good on paper (-ex- start your own company, getting into network marketing), but somehow didn't work for me.

So all I'm doing with Rat-Race-Escape-Artists is sharing what I've learned from my mistakes... and my more recent successes.

In my spare time, I love to travel, dance, play soccer, play chess, and learn new cultures/languages. I also enjoy coaching and mentoring kids.

I was fortunate to have lots of positive role models as a kid, and I try to provide that to kids I interact with. Above all, treat them with the same respect you'd give an adult, and they'll give a very positive response.
(I hated being talked down to as a kid... heck, I hate being talked down to as an adult!) :)

Escape Reason #2
Enjoying Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.
I currently live in North Carolina, USA, with my wife and 1 year old son. Becoming a parent really lit a fire under me, to get my act together and get out of the Rat Race. I have a world to change, and I ain't getting no younger. ;)

I hope you find Rat-Race-Escape-Artists useful. Please interact, discuss, share, and let's help each other beat the system, and escape the Rat Race.

Here's to finding your buried cheese.
